Excellent idea.

Your melee weapon is a two handed spear with a longer range, and your missile attacks are all skill based. Of course you have skills to augment your melee attacks as well.

No reason why they couldn't design the profession to work in PvP. Have skills like Pin that keeps an enemy in place for 2 to 5 seconds. Or Defensive Stance that prevents other melee characters from closing on you or characters adjacent to you. Primarily along these lines would be an Anti-Warrior or Anti-Assassin skill based build. But they could include some interesting interrupts for the missile based skills.

Also have a one-handed spear like a trident that could be used with a shield.

So just copy the warrior and ranger skill lines, so you can have a character that uses spears?

You dont throw spears, those things are called Javalins for a reason, and a defensive melee class is going to be FUN to impliment effectivlly.

No, me either.

I cant think of a spearman class that has ever utilised thrown/ranged weaponry. The only time a spearman would actually be able to play as a spearman would be when his team is retreating to the Guild Hall, and this role is covered already by warriors.

TBH the only way a spearman could work would be some kind of shout based defensive/healer, at a push.

I cant see spearman working, especially not with the crazy harpoon barbarian suggestions flying around here.

However, the article DID mention that one of the new classes was wielding a double-bladed staff, so you may get your wish, just twice as hard.

Also, the other class supposedly looked like a kung fu monk
